When they’re talking about “medical care, even when that treatment may inadvertently and unavoidably cause the death of her unborn child,” they’re talking about a Catholic doctrine (involving a certain amount of mental gymnastics) that says doctors can save a woman’s life by removing the fetus *if* their intention is not to remove the fetus but just to save her life. If in the process of removing the thing killing her, they remove the fetus, it’s not a sin.
I have no idea how they could think that there’s no medical condition in which a pregnancy would threaten a woman’s life. I guess they just don’t know much about pregnancy and medicine and, you know, reality.

My husband and I have gone through 5 years of infertility, and we found out Friday that we are pregnant after our 3rd try of IVF.
I don’t go to the doctor for a couple of weeks. We did the egg retrieval on November 1, and the transfer on November 4. So I would say I am 2 weeks along right? All the pregnancy calculators on-line say that I am 4 weeks. Why is that? I know for a fact I haven’t been pregnant for 4 weeks! I even used the one’s that were for IVF calculations.
