Pregnancy Lotion For Stretch Marks

April 30th, 2010 admin No comments

Bath soak to cure and prevent stretch marks?

I will honestly swear by Palmer’s Cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks. Last year when I gained 20lbs I got stretch marks like crazy on my bum and thighs. The lotion honestly faded the marks faster than letting them fade with time and now that I’m pregnant I use it religiously.

Since this is my first pregnancy I assumed that you only get stretch marks on your belly so that was the only place I used the lotion on. My belly so far at 5 months has stayed stretch mark free, but for other areas that I didn’t use the lotion like, on my boobs, thighs, and butt I have been unfortunate enough to get them everywhere!

I know that in the next couple of month of my pregnancy the stretching is going to get worse and I’m honestly going through a bottle every two weeks. Instead of going through the hassle of rubbing my entire body with lotion (which for a prego can be pretty tiring) does anyone know of any bath soaks specifically made for stretch marks?

There is no lotion or bath soak that will prevent stretch marks. They will fade some over time, but won’t go away completely especially those on the thighs and tummy. But that new little baby will be worth it.
Birth blessings to you.

PS: stretch marks show up for most moms in the last 4-6 weeks.

Pregnancy Test Stick Instructions

April 30th, 2010 admin No comments

pregnancy test, 5 seconds or 20 in pee?

I have a First Response Early Result pregnancy test. The instructions say that if you pee in a cup, then you only hold the absorbancy tip in the pee for 5 seconds only. However, other tests suggest that you pee on the stick for 5 seconds, but if you pee in a cup you keep the absorbancy part in the pee for 20 seconds.
So, should I go with the 20 seconds or the 5 seconds?

I used the very same test. I actually left my tip in for about a minute or so just to be sure it absorbed properly. I peeked before the minute was up & i saw a positve result after about 20-30 sec.but i left it in to let it get darker. Good luck! Hope this helped.

Tunic Dress & Your Maternity fashion

This year’s fashion trends lend themselves well to pregnant women today. In the past it was no easy task locating good looking maternity clothing and often times it seemed impossible. today, designers like Elan International have create trends, perhaps not specifically for maternity wear, but trends that do in fact work well for pregnant women. The tunic dress is perhaps the perfect trend of 2011 that can be worn by women everywhere, including those trying to look fashionable during their pregnancy. Within this article we are going to discuss the basics of the tunic dress and how you can wear them successfully to look great during your special 9months.

Let’s start with the basics. If you are not familiar with the term “tunic”, or you can’t quite put your finger on the style we’re referring to, allow us to explain. A tunic is quite simply a very long t-shirt. It is a casual wear look that has taken the women’s clothing industry by storm. A tunic dress is most commonly made out of a cotton blend for comfort and it can be as long as just below the knee and as short as a few inches above the knee. Whether you are currently pregnant or you have just recently had your baby and are still trying to find fashions that mask your pregnant figure, the tunic dress is a style option many celebrities have taken on as well. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Tori Spelling have been spotted wearing their tunic dress to flatter that pregnant belly!

It is really the comfortable and loose flow of the tunic dress that makes it perfect for maternity fashions. The style of the tunic dress can be found within the neckline as well as with the sleeves. As you can imagine, the necklines that you can find within traditional t-shirt styles are what can be found within tunic dresses. These necklines include: scoop neck, V-neck, boat neck, crew neck and even turtle neck for those colder months of the year.

In terms of the sleeve styles at your disposal they can range from sleeveless to the capped sleeve and the traditional t-shirt sleeve being the most popular. But don’t worry, the style doesn’t stop here! embroidery, beaded accents, bold patterns and even bolder colors are what the tunic dress style is based around. What’s interesting about tunic dresses in terms of maternity clothing is that you don’t have to shop at a maternity retailer in order to find this fashion trend. Elan clothing offers a wide variety of tunic dresses via their online store; a very convenient way to shop!

Before we leave you with this new fashion style to think about, we definitely want to mention the strapless tunic dress; perfect for summer styles! This dress can also be described as a strapless baby doll dress. This casual style is perfect for moms-to-be because of the flowing style and fitting chest area. The contrast is what makes the style with this particular tunic dress. Start looking for your Elan dress today and allow the tunic dress to make you look beautiful and comfortable during your pregnancy.

Pregnancy Charts Bbt Examples

Older woman TTC — need support!?

My husband and I have been TTC for 18 months. I am 38. He is 54. I am getting frustrated. My fertility Dr. suggested we try another 6 mos (this was 6 mos ago) before we get fertility testing. I’m not looking forward to it.

I am charting BBT, and we usually have sex three or four times during my fertile period. I may have had a very early miscarriage in mid-May when I had a weird 18-day cycle w/ high temps.

I feel like I know way too much about the early signs of pregnancy. Every little thing makes me think I am pregnant (For example, right now I have a nasty metallic taste in my mouth for days), but I did have a (late) period this month and some pain (turned out to be a cyst). Dr did a blood preg test anyway just in case. I’ll find out on Monday.

Sorry to ramble. Is / Was anyone else out there TTC, over 35, no children, seeing pregnancy symptoms around every corner? Anybody got a happy ending? I’m trying to relax, but 18 mos is a long time. Can anyone relate?

I can relate Sweetie. I’m 41 and TTC. I got pregnant on the first try at age 40. Then I had a miscarriage in my 2nd trimester. I know it’s not a happy ending, but I’m giving you hope that it is possible for mature women to conceive naturally, or even with a little help. Hubby and I are now trying again. It’s been 5 cycles so far and nothing yet. I’ve learned to not think about every ache and sniffle as a pregnancy sign, but it’s still hard. My husband is a lot younger than me, so I feel the pressure’s on. This would be the first baby for both of us.

If it comes down to fertility testing, you should probably do it. 18 mos is a long time. They may discover a little something they can easily fix and you could find yourself pregnant soon after wards, wouldn’t that be nice :)

Anytime you need to talk, feel free to email me. Us older moms need love too :) )

Good luck.

California Pregnancy Labor Laws

April 27th, 2010 admin No comments

California labor law question, can you be fired legally, for any reason, if they find out you are pregnant?

ok, the deal is my girlfriend got a job and had to sign paperwork that says “your employment was at will”. If they fire her because they found out she is pregnant is that illegal? Granted she signed that paperwork, when I was a DM we had the same kind of paperwork and I still had people try and sue us that I terminated. She is the only employee that shows up to work on time, has no cash shortages (unlike the other employees), and goes out of her way to help everyone. The only reason they could be terminating her is because of the pregnancy. Did I mention that the managers brother is an employee there that constantly gives them reasons to terminate him, including smoking pot at work, yet he has a secure job. It’s frustrating and my girlfriend says she can not fight it because the owners kids are lawyers, and they basically warned her about that.

Regardless of what she signed, firing someone because of pregnancy is illegal discrimination. She can file a charge with the EEOC if she is fired and must do so within 180 days of the adverse event or else she will lose any ability to be compensated.

Hope and a High Risk pregnancy

A young mother with a high-risk pregnancy combines hope with positive action to successfully deliver her pre-term son.

baby Jack arrived, safe and sound. While his mother shivered uncontrollably from the effects of the anesthesia, Daddy and doctor hustled the newborn to the awaiting cubicle where he passed his first test with flying colors. But within minutes, the sigh of relief felt throughout the delivery room was interrupted as Jack’s prematurity manifested itself. Without explanation to mother, father, or grandmother, Jack was whisked away. With father in tow and Nani close behind, baby Jack sped to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Preterm birth, the latest research shows, is the leading cause of infant mortality in the United States. According to CDC researchers, birth before 37 weeks of gestation accounted for at least one-third of all babies’ deaths in 2002. Most of these, two-thirds, occurred within the first twenty-four hours. The technology and expertise of the special personnel in the NICU would give Baby Jack, born at 35 weeks, every opportunity to survive and beat the odds. If, along with nutrients, Baby Jack had acquired the indomitable spirit of his mother, his chances of survival looked good.

After two uneventful, textbook pregnancies, Kelly’s third pregnancy with her first son ran into problems at fourteen weeks. Continual bleeding, at times heavy, was diagnosed as placenta abruption. The large blood clot behind the placenta was reabsorbed partially over time, but ultrasounds also showed placenta previa, a low lying placenta that covered part of the cervix. These two major complications posed a threat to both the baby and Kelly.

Hope, though, burned brightly throughout Kelly’s ordeal. It enabled her to meticulously follow her doctor‘s orders. She ate nutritiously and didn’t smoke or use alcohol. She visited her obstetrician regularly. Between hospitalizations that meant twice weekly visits to the office or the hospital. Non-stress tests and ultrasounds for the baby became routine.

Most difficult of all for Kelly was the imposed bed rest. Caring for two active daughters, ages three and five, meant enlisting additional help from the already overburdened dad-to-be as well as friends, neighbors, and family. Meals were pre-cooked, babysitters volunteered their time, and Nani resurrected her chauffeuring talents. Kelly’s faith bolstered her. She prayed, she remained inactive, and she waited. All with the goal of prolonging gestation and increasing the baby’s weight. The amazement in the doctor’s eyes when Kelly continued to appear week after week for her appointments was subtle, but nonetheless evident to both Kelly and her mother.

During Kelly’s last hospital stay, with her high risk pregnancy doctor on vacation, Kelly faced her greatest challenge. The inexact science of medicine reared its ugly head. Two days after being dismissed from high risk care, Kelly once again suffered an emergency. The four doctors in her chosen medical practice couldn’t agree on what to do. Two wanted to wait and see, to give the baby more time in its natural environment. The other two wanted to go ahead with a planned delivery and thus avoid an emergency C-section. The hospitalist stepped in with another opinion. Each day the plan, or lack of one, changed.

Frustrated by the conflicting opinions and her worsening condition, Kelly and her husband decided to move from the community hospital to a major medical center in Boston. The evening the decision was made, nurses helped Kelly and her husband think through their options. Their expertise and caring gave Kelly the strength to listen to her inner voice. She urgently felt the need to bring Baby Jack into the world.

Kelly’s faith carried her through. The following day, in a planned C-section, the beautiful baby shed his yellow and cracking placenta and the grey umbilical cord that crumbled in the nurse’s hand. He wailed his first cry. Statistics show that only 7% of the deaths attributable to preterm birth occur after the first four weeks. Baby Jack made it through the first two weeks in the hospital, learning how to continue breathing on his own through the night and through his feedings and learning how to regulate his temperature. Now nine weeks old, Baby Jack has an emerging smile, and Kelly and her family maintain hope that the smile means all systems are go for Baby Jack.
